Terms of Service

Last updated: June 11, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using PDF Tagger (the "Service"), you accept and agree to be bound by the terms and provisions of this agreement. If you do not agree to abide by the above, please do not use this service.

2. Credit System

Our Service operates on a credit-based system where each credit processes one page of a PDF document. There are two types of credits:

Subscription credits

  • Awarded monthly with your subscription. Unused credits roll over to the next month but cannot exceed your plan's maximum balance.
  • Subscription credits are cleared when your subscription ends.

Add-on credits

  • Purchased separately as a one-time purchase. Do not expire while your account is active and are not affected by subscription cancellation.

Failed jobs

  • If a processing job fails due to a technical error on our end, the credits consumed by that job are automatically restored to your account. No manual request is required.
  • Credits consumed by successfully completed jobs cannot be reversed.

3. Subscriptions

Subscription plans renew automatically on a monthly basis until cancelled. You will be charged at the start of each billing period.

  • If you cancel your subscription, it will remain active until the end of your current billing period, after which it will not renew. You retain access to the Service and your subscription credits until that date.
  • When your subscription expires or is cancelled, your subscription credit balance is cleared. Add-on credits are not affected.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings.

4. Pricing and Plan Changes

We reserve the right to modify our pricing, subscription plans, credit allocations, and rollover limits at any time. Any such changes will apply to future billing periods only and will not affect credits already issued for your current billing period.

For active subscribers, we will provide notice of material pricing or plan changes by email or through the Service before they take effect. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated pricing or plan terms.

5. Refund Policy

Credits are non-refundable once purchased, except in the following circumstances:

  • If a processing job fails due to a technical error on our end, credits are automatically restored to your account (see Section 2 above). This is not a monetary refund — credits are returned directly.
  • If we are unable to provide the Service more broadly due to a sustained outage on our end, you may be eligible for a monetary refund of credits purchased within the last 7 days. Refund requests must be submitted within 7 days of the relevant purchase.
  • Approved monetary refunds will be processed to the original payment method within 14 business days.

6. Service Discontinuation

In the event that we need to discontinue the Service:

  • We will provide at least 30 days advance notice to all users via email.
  • During this notice period, you will have the opportunity to use any remaining credits.
  • After the discontinuation date, you may request a refund for any unused add-on credits within 30 days. Unused subscription credits are not separately refundable, but any unused portion of your final subscription billing period will be refunded.
  • Refund requests must be submitted within 30 days of service discontinuation.

7. User Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
  • All activities that occur under your account.
  • Ensuring that you have sufficient credits before processing documents.
  • Using the Service in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Not uploading any content that violates intellectual property rights, contains malware, or is illegal.

8. Account Termination

You may close your account at any time by contacting us at support@pdf-tagger.com. Any credits remaining at voluntary account closure are non-refundable.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in activity that is harmful, illegal, or abusive. In such cases:

  • We will provide notice of termination except in cases of severe or illegal conduct where immediate action is required.
  • Any unused credits at the time of termination for cause are forfeited and are not eligible for refund.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
  • Automated tagging may not produce output that fully conforms to PDF/UA-1 or any other accessibility standard. You are responsible for verifying conformance before relying on the output for compliance purposes.
  • We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
  • Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for credits in the 12 months preceding the claim.
  • We are not responsible for any loss of data or content uploaded to the Service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless PDF Tagger and its officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with:

  • Your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.
  • Any content you upload to the Service, including any claim that such content infringes the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of a third party.
  • Your violation of any applicable law or regulation.

You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the necessary rights to upload and process any documents you submit to the Service.

11. Intellectual Property

You retain all ownership rights to the content you upload. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service. We do not claim ownership of your content.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in California.

13. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes via email or through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after such modifications constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
